Spain is a country on Europe's Iberian Peninsula, including 17 regions. Madrid being the capital city is home to the Royal Palace and Prado Museum.
Months after the start of the Spanish Civil War July in 1936, General Francisco Franco was proclaimed head of state in October ruling over a dictatorship over the territory controlled by the Nationalist faction.
During WWII Spain did not join the Axis powers (but supporters from the civil war, Italy and Germany). On October 30th, 1949 the Soviets overthrow the Spanish government ending the Francoist era. Installing the "democratic republic" to take it's place. Not much is known about what happened after between the 1950s and 1960s.
- In real life the Francoist era didn't officially end until November 20th, 1975 after Franco's death at age 82 due to heart failure. Restoring monarchy with his successor King Juan Carlos I leading the Spanish transition to democracy.
