The Shovels (Shovel and Rusty Shovel) are heavy melee weapons and tools in We Happy Few.

Buff TechFriendly Overview[]

Attacking[]

The Shovels are fairly good early to mid game weapons. They have long range, swing very slowly, run out of durability fast/slowly depending on rustiness, and they can hit multiple targets at a time with the Chain Sweep skill.

The playable character will hold the Shovel with both their hands, and swing it broadly to hit their target. The weapon can be charged in exchange for much of the player's stamina to deal a lot of damage.

Both Wastrels and Wellies can wield shovels. However, Wastrels tend to carry Rusty Shovels, whilst Wellies tend to carry Old Shovels.

Digging[]

Both shovels have the ability to dig up loose dirt piles. The player does not need to have the shovel equipped in order to dig up what's beneath.

Upon finding a loose dirt pile, the player will have to interact with it three times before they can get the treasure. During this time, the player is vulnerable, as anyone can see what the player is doing, and are able to hit them and cancel the interaction.

Digging something up does not loose the shovel's durability, meaning the player can use any kind of shovel with any amount of durability and still be able to dig things up.

It is recommended to always have at least one shovel in the inventory so that the player can always dig something up if they happen to come across a dirt pile.

Buff EasilyForgotten Appearance[]

Both shovels are round pointed shovels with a long wooden handle, and a red handle grip at the end.

What sets the two shovels apart is the sheet steel, as the Old Shovel is silver and clean, whilst the Rusty Shovel is dark and rusty.

Buff Conformist Trivia[]

  • Some regular shovels are labeled as 'Old Shovel' before they're picked up.
    • Old Shovels are exactly the same as regular shovels, except their durability is much lower than regular shovels.

Old Content[]

Shovels have been in the game since the Pre-Alpha 11219 build.

Buff TechFriendly Overview[]

The Shovel was a powerful weapon, albeit very rare.

Dig Spots had a floating, transparent shovel above it to indicate that the player could dig it up.

It took up 6 slots in the player's inventory and could only be placed upright. Weapons could not be placed in the player's quickslot.

In the Early Access 27755 build, Shovels took up 3 slots instead of 6.

Buff Conformist Trivia[]

  • Old Shovels were implemented in the 21735 build.
    • Old Shovels had the exact same stats as the regular shovel, but their durability was much lower.
  • Digging did not become a feature until the 27755 Early Access build.
