Napoleon Bonaparte was born 15th August, 1769 in Corsica, France. He joined the French army as an artillery officer when the French Revolution erupted in 1789. At age 24 he was promoted to General. two years later began his first military campaign the French Revolutionary Wars (1792-1802). Napoleon and others orchestrated a coup becoming First Consul of the French First Republic 9th November, 1799. In the Napoleonic Wars, he and his arch rival Arthur Wellsley, the Duke Of Wellington fought against each other. However on June 8th, 1815 Napoleon surrendered to Wellington at the Battle of Waterloo. The British exiled him to remote island Saint Helena, where he died May 5th, 1821 at age 51.

The people of Wellington Wells idolizes the Duke of Wellington and his military victory against Napoleon Bonaparte. A building was built named Waterloo House in 1829 to commemorate the defeat. In 1964 the house is owned by miss Victoria Byng, daughter of General Byng.
