In-Game Description[]
so they've moved sir robert's Bristol Pilot to the submarine pen! or the "boat house" at they like to call it.
the general's boat! that might be a way out of wellington wells for gwen and me!
i can't believe they've got poor corporal hardy trying to fix up the boat! well corporal cheeseman cant believe it either. if i could patch it up... well, it needs a new engine, and i don't know the first thing about boats. except i am pretty sure 'ramjet' is not something they are supposed to have. i need a plan!
let's see how far fast talking and a smile gets me
who can tell me about boats? so strange, we live on a bloody archipelago but the water might as well be lava. well, it is fairly toxic, come to think of it.
once i've got the boat working, i'm going to want to come back here with gwen. and i don't fancy a stroll down the King's Road.
all i need to do is flip the switch on the hatch and gwen and i can come here secretly and safely. relatively speaking.
where is cap'n strawbeard? i've never been in this pub when he wasn't either drinking or trying to borrow money to drink with.
what's he doing there? he barely leaves the pub
some sort of horrible pagan ritual? and they're going to do something awful to Eddie? i can't let that happen! eddie's the sweetest kid!
i'm not going to let them sacrifice eddie macmillan! i can think of some people in this town i would gladly let them sacrifice, but not him!
If I can spike those chalices with knockout juice, then maybe I won't have to fight anyone. better living through chemistry!
thank god i got him in time.
he'll be relieved to know eddie's all right
the good captain gave me a book all about the bristol pilot! what luck!
Walkthrough[]
From the front gates, head right, past the Distillery, and to the boat house that is somewhat obscured by the many trees. Inside the house is an elevator that leads down into the caves.
Down in the caves is Hardy, talk to him. After the cutscene, Sally has to head back out and to the Air Raid Shelter.
Use the track access hatch to quickly travel to St. George's Holm, where the pub is. Head inside of the pub and talk to the barmaid. Jane will tell Sally that Cap'n Strawbeard headed off to Wednesday's hill looking for Edmund MacMillan.
Head to Lud's Holm by any means, and go up Wednesday's hill. Not the witches' hill.
On the hill by the door is a distressed Cap'n Strawbeard who informs Sally that the cultists kidnapped Edmund and is about to kill him for their sacrifices, and pleads for her to save him as he is a coward. Go past the door, up to the top of the hill, and hide in the bushes.
Now here, the player may tackle the situation however they like, if they want to attack every single cultist with the use of a weapon, or incapacitate them all with Knockout Juice is all up to them. Once they're all dealt with, the player can untie Eddie and talk to the Captain.
Strawbeard will express his gratitude to Sally for saving his friend, and as thanks, he gives her a book all about the Bristol Pilot after she asks for it before running up to help Eddie back to the Pub. This ends the quest.

Hardy[]
Hardy: Miss Boyle! How lovely to see you!
Sally: You've got the boat in the water! Well, over the water, anyway.
Hardy: It don't leak quite as much any more. Thing is, the motor don't turn. I mean forget starting it, the Man's got the only key. I can't even turn it with a wrench. Rusted solid. I'd have to take it apart, but I think I'd never get it back together again.
Sally: You know a lot about boats? And you're the only one fixing it up?
Hardy: Ma'am, I'm a joiner. If you need a door hung, I'm your man. Apparently that makes me the General's expert on boats.
Sally: My dad and I patched up a Bristol Pilot when I was a girl.
Hardy: Is... that what sort of boat it is?
Sally: Did about twenty leagues, but it wasn't really white water. So we sold it for a twin diesel schooner. Of course the Navy requisitioned that for lake patrols. We tried to patch up a Q boat during the Occupation, but we couldn't find a ramjet. I'm not an expert.
Hardy: Would you happen to know how to fix the motor?
Sally: Well, if it's rusted solid ... maybe Dr. Faraday could make a new one for me.
Hardy: You know Dr. Faraday? If the likes of me asked her she'd probably zap me with one of her satanic devices!
Sally: All right, but don't tell the General.
Hardy: No Ma'am, it'll be our little secret!
Hardy: Won't the General be surprised!
The Barmaid[]
Jane: Hullo, Miss Boyle! Usual?
Sally: Oh, I'm afraid I'm looking for someone.
Jane: He's not here. He just stepped out. Don't know when he'll be back.
Sally: Hah hah. Where's the pirate?
Jane: Does he owe you money too?
Sally: No, I want to talk with him about boats.
Jane: He ran out looking for Eddie. The Meat Boy? Said he was on Wednesday's Hill.
Sally: Eddie MacMillen? What's he doing there?
Jane: What do you get when you cross an elephant with a rhino?
Sally: What?
Jane: 'Ell if I know. Watch yourself out there. The old name for that hill wasn't Wednesday.
Sally: That's goddamn creepy.
The Pirate[]
Strawbeard: They've taken him! Poor, poor Eddie!
Sally: Who's taken Eddie?
Strawbeard: The cultists. Up on the hill!
Sally: The yam people?
Strawbeard: It's not yams they worship. They're -- it's too horrible -- you have to stop them! They're going to kill him!
Strawbeard: I wish I could do it. I'm too scared! Oh God. I just -- my legs have gone all watery -- I"m a coward, Miss Boyle! A coward!
Sally: I'll do my best. Don't go anywhere!
Strawbeard: Save him, Miss Boyle! Please!
The Yam Cultists[]
Edmund: Help me! They're gonna cook my heart and eat it!
Sally: Oh dear.
Cultist: I think we should all eat it. Just cut it up into tiny bits and each have a taste. Even a tiny little squidge would heal us!
Cultist: Blood creates a linkage between god and supplicant. A kind of channel. The old gods are the thirstiest, you know.
Cultist: I think we ought to ask Him how He wishes the sacrifice to be used. You can hear Him, if you quiet your mind. At least, I can.
Cultist: It's not the flesh. That's just calories. We have to extract the phyto-steroids! Even the tiniest eyedropper of phyto-steroids expands in your bloodstream and gives you power!
---
Edmund: No! Please! No! Don't kill me!
Sally: My God, they're going to cut his heart out!
Sally: I don't think I want to fight all these vegetable worshippers.
Sally: I wonder if there's a way I could drug them? Oh, look! They're drinking out of a chalice!
Cultist Chant[]
Erasmus: Hear the words of the Old One, whose names are secret and may not be said, whispered in the shadow of the New Moon. When I wear my cloak of shadow, ye shall assemble in some secret place and adore me. And I will teach you things that a re unknown. I am who I am!
Erasmus: Behold: My branches give you sustenance like the Mother of All Things; with the blood of the sacrifice shall ye call to me, and with the blood ye shall nourish my roots. I am who I am!
Erasmus: On my skin are written all the secrets, for those who know how to read them. In my flesh is sweetness and softness. I know your past and your futures unwritten. I am who I am!
Erasmus: But you who seek me, know thy seeking and yearning shall avail thee not, unless you know mystery: for if that which you seek, you find not there, you will never find it in yourself. For I am older than the beginning, and I will be there after the end of desire. I am who I am!
Rescuing Eddie[]
Edmund: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Edmund: They promised me sweets if I came along with them! But there weren't any. And then they tied me up!
Sally: You mustn't trust strangers, Eddie.
Edmund: I know.
Edmund: But I can trust you, can't I? You're good. And Arthur. He's good, too. Percy always said so.
Sally: Yeah. Arthur's bloody brilliant.
Sally: Look. You wait here. I'll send someone to get you home.
Returning to the Pirate[]
Strawbeard: You saved him. I wish I had. I love that lad. He's one of the best people I know.
Sally: Yeah. He'll need you to carry him home. ... Listen, Captain... I need to fix up a Bristol Pilot. The, ah, General's.
Strawbeard: Oh, that's a beauty. I love that boat. Clean lines. Beautiful woodwork. I was just reading about it.
Sally: Could I... could I borrow your book?
Strawbeard: Oh, sure! Here you go. Least I can do, after I didn't save Eddie.
Strawbeard: Keep it, you'll need it more than I do! Tell you the truth, I haven't been in a boat in 15 years.
Strawbeard: Say, you wouldn't happen to have a sovereign for a thirsty pirate, would ye?
Trivia[]
- Sally mistakenly calls Edmund MacMillan Edmund MacMillen.
- The things the cultists say when approaching them used to be said when Arthur ventured up the hill back in Alpha.
- The name of the quest derives from the combination of Milli- meaning one thousanth, and Helen- the name of a beautiful woman, most likely Helen of Troy.
- With this in mind, since Helen is known to be the woman who launched a thousand ships, 'one millihelen' became the amount of beauty required to launch one ship.
- Oddly enough, despite Eddie's legs being broken thanks to the Plough Boys in Act I, he somehow managed to end up in Lud's Holm, or be close enough to the cultists for them to abduct him, which would be an impossible task considering the measures the city has taken to keep wastrels out of Hamlyn Village.
