Houses are buildings occupied by Wellies or Wastrels throughout Wellington Wells, unless they've been abandoned. The player is able to break into these houses and gather its supplies.
In Survival Mode, any chests or safes in these houses may contain a Gilded Pleasure Mask that grants six Skill Points.
NOTE: The listed items that can be found in each of the houses does not represent everything that the player will find, but rather everything that the player can find. Each type of house has multiple versions of itself with different items, better or worse security, or even completely different decor; only the layout stays the same.
Routine[]
In the Garden District, generally two to four Wastrels live together in their houses. They will wander around, look at paintings, cry on chairs, and warm their hands by campfires.
In Hamlyn Village, there can be at least three to as many as six Wellies residing in a house. They will also wander around the house, stopping off at the kitchen or to sit on a chair. From 9pm, they will gradually stop whatever they were doing and go to bed. Because their beds are king-size, two Wellies can sleep in one bed at the same time, though it should be noted that this sometimes doesn't work and they'll instead wander around the house, unable to go to sleep.
Security[]
In the Garden District, houses tend to be secured with tin can wire traps that, if triggered, will alert any nearby Wastrels or Headboys, regardless of whether they're inside the house or not.
In Hamlyn Village, some of the houses utilise Downer Detectors as security against Downers, meaning the player will have to either get in through a window, or take Joy/Sunshine to safely pass through.
Houses in the Garden District[]
There are five different types of houses found throughout the Garden District. These traditional English homes have antique furniture, Victorian wallpapers that are peeling away, rotting wood, and roofs that sag under their own weight. The houses sometimes have holes in the floors and piles of bricks scattered throughout, they also tend to be three stories high.
House Nr. 1[]
This house has three floors, and is perhaps the most common house the player may come across.
The front door of the house leads into the kitchen, while the back door leads into the living room.
On the second floor is a small hallway that leads into a bathroom and a long bedroom containing two beds.
The top floor has a possibility to contain either a Motilene Spill, or a Chemistry Set. There'll be a bed behind the stairs.

On the second floor, it's possible for there to be a bed right in front of the stairs, and the room next to the bathroom is more of a living space that contains a phonograph.
The whole third floor is a bedroom, containing three beds.

House Nr. 3[]
This house has two floor and an attic. It is possible for the house to have holes in the wall for the player to enter through, or be completely intact with a backdoor.
The front door leads into the living room with an open archway leading into the kitchen, there's a big hallway to the left with stairs that lead to the second floor, this hallway may hold a Workbench, but not always.
Upstairs is another hallway with a piano in the corner, next to the piano is the archway leading into the bathroom/bedroom, in the far corner of the room there's a low dresser the player can climb up on to reach the attic, where there's another inhabitant.

House Nr. 4[]
This house has two floors and an attic, the whole of the house is practically in ruins, and the player must platform in order to get to the other floors of the house.
The front and back doors may be missing, leading into a large living space where most of the inhabitants will be stationed in. There's a kitchen near where the player can get to the other floors.
To get to the second floor, the player must jump and climb up the fallen floor, this is easier done with the low dresser nearby (if one generates in the house at all).
The second floor is completely in ruin, and while there's a small path to the left that lead to a Small Dresser, the player must jump over on top of the fireplace in order to reach the other side.
The top floor is almost completely collapsed, and there is a chance for there to be a dead person lying on the mattress.

House Nr. 5[]
This house has a rather unique layout, and is one of three house that is specifically part of a quest, and not as a random set piece. In Survival Mode, however, it's another house that the Wastrels can live in.
The front and back doors lead into a large hall with an open kitchen behind the stairs, and next to the stairs is a small room with tons of bricks inside. If the player is playing Story Mode, they're allowed to be on this floor.
Depending on the game mode and Act, the second floor is guarded by one of the Wastrels, as it's a reserved area. However, since it's a regular house in Survival, it won't be guarded in that mode. Nonetheless, the second floor is essentially a big bedroom, with a smaller room right next to the stairs that contain a single bed.
In the corner of the second floor is a low dresser the player can climb up on to reach the third floor, this floor contains a nearly collapsed bathroom.

Houses that have been Abandoned[]
In the Garden District, there are loads of houses labeled on the map as "Abandoned House", these houses are completely trashed, uninhabitable for anybody.
Some of the houses have more floors than one, meaning the player is capable of climbing up on the wrecked walls/staircases to get up higher.
Sometimes there can be a bed in these homes, allowing the player to sleep for the night/day if they need to, do note that these beds are usually on the second floor.

Houses in Hamlyn Village[]
There are five different types of houses found throughout Hamlyn Village. These houses, inspired by Mid-Century modern styles, sybolize Wellies' sensibilities: forward thinking, style, and simplicity. The wallpapers are geometric and colorful, and faux wood is used as paneling. The houses tend to be three stories high.
House Nr. 1[]
Perhaps the smallest of the houses in Hamlyn Village, this house has three floors.
The front door leads into a small hallway with stairs right in front of the door, and a hall to the left that leads to the kitchen and living room. The back door leads directly into the kitchen.
The second floor has a small hallway and two rooms, the room closest to the stairs is the bathroom, and the room at the end of the hall is a bedroom.
The third floor leads directly into the bedroom, however, it is possible for the player to turn around, jump, and climb onto the rail above to avoid a Downer Detector. It is also possible for there to be a safe in this hallway.
There's always an Electro-Lock Shocker underneath the bed on the third floor.

The front door leads into a large open living room, while the back door leads into the kitchen. The stairs are nearby the front door.
On the second floor are two rooms, one of which is a bedroom, while the other is a bathroom. The room near the stairs has a small closet that can contain a Control Box.
The top floor is a living room of sorts, with a study at the end of the hall. There's a fairly large bedroom next to the desk.

The largest house in Hamlyn Village, this house has three floors with big rooms and multiple paths. Be aware that this house is usually the one in which Wellies have trouble going to sleep in.
The front door open up to a small entry room where one's clothes are hung, and the back door leads into the kitchen. There are two stairs that lead to the second floor, both of which are to the left of the doors the player can enter through. There's a living room/bar area in front of the kitchen.

House Nr. 5[]
A variation of the fourth house, still huge, but also more compact.
Much like the fourth house, the front door opens up to a small entry room where one's clothes are hung, and the back door leads into the kitchen. There are two stairs that lead to the second floor, both of which are to the left of the doors the player can enter through.
There is also a small bathroom next to the kitchen, and the living room is blocked off by a wall.
The second floor has a large living room, a large bedroom is right next to the stairs leading to the third floor, and another small bathroom is in the far corner of the floor.
The third floor is a long hallway that leads to two bedrooms, the first bedroom has a study to the left of it, and there's a small bathroom between the study and second bedroom.
Because there's a chance for a Downer Detector to be right on the edge of the stairs, it's practically impossible to pass through them without being high on drugs first.
Hidden Safe[]
This is the only house that contains a secret safe. Behind the painting on the second floor bedroom is a safe, to move the painting, the player must find and press a large red button. The location of the button depends on the house, but it can be found in either of these locations:
- First floor, behind the mini bar.
- First floor, near the fireplace.
- Second floor, on the wall outside of the bedroom.
- Third floor, on the left side of the desk in the study.
- Third floor, in the hallway between the stairs to the rooms, above the couch.

General[]
- NPCs will be unable to sleep in a bed if the player is hiding under one.
- Houses that are secured with Downer Detectors have a sign on the front doors.
- There are more variations of Abandoned Houses in Survival Mode compared to Story Mode.
- One specific round clock is able to show the time as it passes in the game, none of the other clocks do the same.
- In Hamlyn Village, the player can cheese the game by sitting down on nearby chairs, phasing through the Downer Detectors without activating it.
- Because of the Wellie's heavy use of Joy, they keep many notes around that remind them of things to do, as they tend to forget a lot of things.
- "Aunt Anne has gone on holiday, so don't try to visit."
- "Bring an umbrella!"
- "Clean your catsuit before you wear it!"
- "Don't cook with sawdust again!"
- "Elizabeth, dear, this is not your house. Yours is the other side of the street."

- "There probably is a top sheet, you just think it's the bottom sheet."
- "They're probably in your other trousers."
- "Wind your watch!"
- According to the book, The Art of We Happy Few, the interiors of the houses in Hamlyn Village reflect the '60s rejection of the old, Wellies have replaced traditional paintings with modern art, and they've covered the old wallpaper with new ones. The interiors in the Garden District have been in a state of ruin ever since the war as no one bothered to rebuild them afterwards, and unlike the Wellies who are able to get rid of the old, the Wastrels are forever surrounded by their past.
