As Arthur's office is now vacant, I do hope you will see your way to letting me have it. We all saw how he behaved at Deidre's birthday party. He's probably gone on holiday by now.
I hope you will not keep his office vacant, as you did Prudence's -- not that I am questioning your authority. (I know you and Prudence were so fond of each other.) I am merely concerned that prime office is going to waste. Surely someone as efficiency-minded as yourself can see that.
P.S. Arthur was only senior to me because I made a lateral transfer from the Bureau of Civic Happiness. His office should have been mine all along.
