Joy Withdrawal is an ailment in We Happy Few. It's occurs when the Joy meter depletes.

There are different ways to deplete the meter, either by letting it drain on its own, or by using a Crash pill/syringe.

Buff TechFriendly Overview[]

Stats[]

As soon as the player enters the Withdrawal stage, their hunger and thirst depletes completely, taking a cut of their stamina. The player can eat or drink something to bring their stamina back up.

The player's attacks are slower and take less damage, and other tasks (such as crafting) take longer to complete.

NPCs[]

Wellies are the only NPCs who will care about the player when they're going through Withdrawal. They'll see the player from further away, and the time it takes for them to notice the player is faster.

Other[]

When the player is under Withdrawal, the world will lose its vibrant colour and instead shine bright greens and reds, the objects will be dirty, and the plants wither. Environmental sounds slow down and distorts slightly, and the NPCs voices echo.

DLCs[]

When the player loses enough health during the Lightbearer DLC, the environment changes in a way that makes it appear as if Nick going through Withdrawal. However, the NPCs eyes glow a bright red, a symptom associated with Memory Loss.

Victoria Byng experiences Withdrawal in the beginning of her DLC, though the environment appears more like she's going through Memory Loss.

Buff Herbalist Treatment[]

There's no way to treat Withdrawal other than letting it empty on its own, or taking another Joy pill. The player can speed up the process by sleeping in a bed, or by travelling to a faraway hatch.

The speed of which Withdrawal drains is dependent on how much Joy the player took.
